Special Issue Information
Considered one of the oldest infectious diseases in the history of mankind, the highly contagious tuberculosis has never ceased to pose a health risk to the infected individuals. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the infectious agent that causes tuberculosis, which leads to lung damage and triggers many systemic immune complications, such as secondary pulmonary infections. According to the literature, interleukin (IL)-10, IL-35, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), types I–III interferon (IFN), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and regulatory T cells play pivotal roles in the host response to infection caused by M. tuberculosis.
This special issue will welcome articles on the latest advances in the immunologic research on the M. tuberculosis infection, and the pathogenesis of tuberculosis. Specifically, we welcome articles that made an attempt to explore how M. tuberculosis affects the human body and decipher the immune response in the wake of infection. It is hopeful that the new findings in this realm will provide a scientific basis for more efficient treatment of tuberculosis.
